It's time to start the countdown...I dance around this empty house Tear us down, throw you out Screaming down the halls Spinning all around and now we fall...
Amara padded to the dumpster on the side of the McDonalds building. She looked around quickly before she turned, and used her long, strong legs to leap into the four foot rim of the garbage can. She snorted in slight disgust as her paws landed in a mixture of ketchup, mustard, and soda pop. She wiped her paws on a rather clean napkin, then started to nose around. It was rather spacious, and she could freely move around to look for food.
She chuckled in pleasure, and snuffled around a small pile, finding a half eaten double meat burger. She tore out a large hunk of it, chewing partly before swallowing. Oops. She coughed heavily. The bread stuck in her throat, and she lapped at some soda in a cup to get it down. She panted for a minute, then took another bite of burger, making sure she chewed thoroughly before swallowing.
After finishing, she polished off a few fries from a fry box. She licked her lips hungrily. She hadn't eaten this well in days, and it felt good to have a full belly. She sniffed around a few more seconds, and found a strange smelling burger, barely touched. She nosed the bread off, and stared at the insides. It was white meat, but it wasn't chicken. She shrugged, and took a bite. She liked it, and gobbled the whole thing, leaving only the bread. She would have to learn what that was called. She licked her lips again, and put her front paws on the rim of the can, looking around. She didn't want to leave this place. Not yet. Echoes knocking on locked doors All the laughter from before I'd rather live out on the street Than in this haunted memory

A big hyena female trotted choppily along the side of the local McDonald's, observing the humans inside with a smirk. A few stared at her, newcomers, she figured, and most ignored her. After all, Asali had become a regular here. The workers had even taken to slipping the female a few of the extra burgers from the back, or some fries that had passed the 'freshness' time, instead of chasing her away. Even though some of the toppings humans put on their food was sometimes awful, she couldn't really complain. The workers that fed her had mostly learned what she liked, and so gave her the plain cheeseburgers with ketchup, and left the other burgers to the other strays that came to be fed.
When the employees went on break, they sometimes sat out back and slipped Asali some of their lunch. Most of the time, though, they kept their food to themselves, and Asali was fine with that, and instead went to knock over a trash bin or two, much to the distaste of the people that had to clean up after her. Asali yawned and stood on her hinds to peek through the back window and see who was working today, after all, some of the employees didn't much care for the hyena. Seeing that none of the gripey people were here today, she flicked her tail and loped over to the trash bins. This time, she saw that one was already open, and padded over to it.
Asali raised her cranium and inhaled, but all she could smell was old food and stale soda. The female flicked a round, black ear with impatience and put a single, powerful paw on the rim of the bin, pulling back. She skittered back, shaking her head as the thing slammed into the ground, either there was some heavy chicken McNuggets in there, or another dog was. Crinkling up her muzzle with distaste, she walked back over to the open can, spying an oddly colored dog in it with huge ears. She'd seen some canines like this back in Africa, they were very smart and fast. At least they looked like they could run thirty miles an hour, Asali thought, peering down at her thin legs.
"Good eve, kind shrew." she said with her African accent, trying not to offend this dog more than needed. It was, after all, bigger than her.

She hadn't seen the hyena come behind her, hadn't heard her heavy pawsteps or her choppy breath. But she heard her after she was knocked down along with the can. She gave a sharp intake of breath as she hit the ground. She opened her eyes, and with a start, realized she was looking directly into a hyenas. She listened raptly to her words, saw her examining her. She pricked her ears, and grimaced when that movement made the slimy mustard fall onto her nose. Yuck! She hated mustard. She stumbled out of the can, food items sticking to her pelt. She shook her head quickly, sending the mustard flying, flying, right onto the hyenas forehead. She couldn't help but let out a giggle. "Sorry, hun. I hope you don't hate mustard, because you're gonna have a hard time getting that off." she gave another light chuckle, then turned serious. "So finally I meet another african breed. My name is Amara. May I ask of yours?"

The dog's pelt was covered with food, a few burger papers and a french fry were the most noticeable, and Asali was about to laugh at her misfortune when a glob of yellow mustard came flying at her head like a well-aimed projectile. The hyena bitch flattened her ears and tried to hop out of the way, but the mustard had hit its mark. She growled, ill-tempered as ever, and raised a thick paw to wipe the substance away from her forehead and ear, "Oh no, I just lovemustard in all its smelly, nastiness. I'm so glad you've flung such a large quantity at my face." She said, scraping her paw pad on the asphalt and ridding it of the sour yellow liquid.
She rolled her eyes, "I'm Asali, nice to meet you, Amara...oh! I forgot the rest of my lines, it seems. terribly sorry." she said with a giggle. Asali yawned, exposing her two inch-long fangs, and showing the ripples of muscle in her jaw. She closed her mouth with an audible snap, and padded past the female, Amara, and extended her paws into the trash. She pulled back, pulling back a layer of fresh food. She never could understand why the people threw out so much food. The female then picked through the trash she'd pulled back, sniffing around. She found a burger, with pickles and what seemed to be mustard. She picked up the burger gently and placed it behind her, "You can take that, I don't like mustard." she said, crinkling her nose at the thought of mustard.
Asali peeled back the next bunch of trash, this time finding a dripping cup of soda. She tore the lid off and lapped up as much as she could before it seeped through the papers and rotting food. "They don't mind me here, but they'll probably chase you away. Never seen you 'round here before." she said sharply. Satisfied that the can was picked clean, Asali backed out and stepped over the half-wrapped up burger and went to the next can. Fixing her immensely powerful jaws over the latch, she crunched down and bent the latch almost in half. It came open easily then. Stomach rumbling, she tipped that can and turned around, "You can take this one, I'll get that 'un" she said in her deep voice, nodding to the next can over.

She shook her head at the offer to take the burger. Mustard also repulsed her. She stepped over it, walking over to the can that the hyena had knocked down for her. As she scavenged, she started talking, apparently to the can, but she hoped Asali was listening. "Just found my way around here. So far, no ones chased me out. They've all been staring at me, though." she muttered. They had been gawking at her ears. She shook herself, irritated at the thought. She snapped down a couple of fries, and sniffed around some more. Nothing else but trash.
She backed out of the can, sitting. She was a complete mess. Soda and ketchup dripped from her ears and shoulders, and her legs were drenched. She started licking her sticky fur, cleaning it as best as she could. She would learn to be more careful when she scavenged. She found almost as much food as she had eaten on her pelt. She ignored the nasty taste of the mustard, making sure her pelt was back to it's strange design. Satisfied, she turned back to the hyena. "So, how long you been here? I don't think people would be used to seeing african animals in the states." she gave a light chuckle.

Asali shrugged, taking the paper off half a burger and scarfing it down, "At first they stared at me, but they eventually get used to you. Watch this," she said as she stood up and padded over to the door. She raised up on her hind legs and gripped the knob in her teeth, then twisted. The door opened with a click, and she nosed it open. Asali awooed at them, and when the cooks paid no attention to her, the hyena slipped inside and loped over to the counter they out the left over food on. She looked around, seeing no one was watching her, she hopped up and snatched a few mouthfuls of fries and then about four double cheeseburgers.
She loped back out the door and pushed it closed with her muzzle. The food was getting soggy in her mouth, so she spat it on the ground and pushed two burgers to Amara, "Here, fresh." in fact, they were still hot. The hyena gobbled down her two burgers and laid down on the ground. She then rolled over on her back, exposing her bulging belly, and sunned herself.

Her face twisted into a smirk. "Nice," she murmured as she tore into the first burger, reveling in the hot meat and warm ketchup. She finished the first and set into the second. After finishing it, she looked at the hyena. She was confident, that was sure. "May I know some things about you?" She layed down, getting onto her side. She felt the warm sun slowly warm her fur and the skin underneath her beautiful pelt. She wasn't afraid of this female, she wasn't afraid of the humans. She licked her maw, tasting the recent meal once more. If she continued to eat like this, she would become obese, like the people inside. She would have to regulate herself. This would be a treat, not very often.
